Bloghindustani has come up with some tips and suggestions that may help students who are planning to study abroad

Indian students who are going abroad for studies might have to face quite a few challenges. Surely the students will not get the leverage as they get would have got while studying at India. They will have to adjust to a new country, new culture and new atmosphere all together.

Dont's

  • Do your research about the new place and learn about the local culture, laws, customs, climate etc
  • Plan your travel in advance and make sure to carry all the required documents
  • Leave copies of your passport, visa, itinerary, contact address and phone numbers of your overseas contact and the place you are going to stay with your family/friends so that they can contact/help you in case of an emergency
  • Make sure you have an insurance that will cover your emergency medical needs abroad
  • If you are under any prescribed medication, carry a copy of the prescription with you
  • In the new country, always carry your passport/ a copy of your passport with you
  • Abide to the laws and regulations of the country
  • Try to live within the small budget that you are provided with and avoid unnecessary expenses
  • Explore the options of doing some part time job in the campus so that it helps in your day to day expenses
  • Do exercise regularly so that it keeps you fit and focused
  • Study regularly and score well in the exams
  • Always keep your career goal in mind and strive hard towards achieving that

Dont's

  • Do not carry unnecessary luggage when you travel abroad, the simple reason being you don't know how big the accommodation provided is. Also when you leave for vacation or after course completion a huge luggage is a burden to carry back home
  • Do not leave your luggage unattended and never accept packages from strangers
  • Try avoiding calling your parents very often because end of the day your wallet will be empty and you will not get over the homesickness
  • Do not carry with you more cash than you can afford to lose
  • Do not try to convert the dollars or pounds that you spent into rupees; doing so will always make you disappointed
  • Do not lose your temper even when foreigners try to provoke you
  • Avoid consumption of drugs and alcohol because foreigners might put you in trouble in whatever ways they can and they will wait for the opportunity.
  • Abstain from getting involved in sexual activities
  • Avoid faking your accent while communicating to the foreigners. It might be funny for them and embarrassing for you. Be proud of your nation and English

All the best and enjoy the experience of learning abroad!!!
